Get Inspired: A WHORTHY SACRIFICEI've subscribed to the BBC World Have Your Say(WHYS) daily email on leading topics of concern allacross the world and I got an email from the team in London about The huge cruise ship, the CostaConcordia, lying on its side just off the rocky coast of the Italian island of Giglio, which has been all over news sites all around the world. Apart from people being staggered at the images, lots of other conversations are emerging from the story and this particular one caught my attention. One survivor Antonietta Sintolli said: "We were in the lifeboats fortwo hours, crying and holding on to each other. People were trying to steal life jackets from eachother. We could only get ones for children."Another survivor, Sandra Rogers told the UK's Daily Mail newspaper "There was no "women andchildren first" policy. There were big men, crew members, pushing their way past us to get into the lifeboats. It was disgusting."After reading the comments ι felt It's an interesting point - to share here with you friends. If you are putting others first, do you think it should be the "women and children" of that famous phrase? Or it should go with this pretty popular phrase usedby one popular man in the ship "...Guys, It's †нє survival of the fittest"?It is unnatural to risk your death to let weak people survive...Men's natural instinct should be to protect their offspring and family. In a disaster situation, do youthink your main responsibility is to yourself, or do have a duty to help those around you? I'd be fascinated to hear from you if you're iη thatsituation, WHAT WILL YOU DO?When I posted this to get talking with friends, you know what facebook is like, I got this as the first comment from a lady..."Hmmm another sermon @ this time? *veri long*"When I saw it, ι just smiled aπϑ waited for what others will think as everyone is entitled to his opinion about posts made here. With that comment I felt we'll not even have a conversation or someone will not sacrifice to read from someone like ♏ε. Thank God for my first comment which focused on the topic not †нє length of my writing. My friend Rinret Walle wrote:"...but I've got to save myself in order to save others don't u think so?"To that I'll say, she has a point. Aπϑ that's how it went on...Sitkukka Kitmwa Justina wrote:"I think the weak ones should be saved first, since they cannot help themselves!" ...I like this.Hannah Poloma wrote:"Its good to help others, cos someday you will also need tohelped, for one good turn deserves another. But then the world now is a selfish place. As a saying goes "self 1st, if not self only."...Perfect words Hannah but will you do that? That's my point of worry.Halima Adeleke wrote in connection to what Hannah said:"Hannah but in this case, you can't deserve another cos youmight not live or survive the next moment. I'll just say,if you're a family, save the children. If you're alone, help yourself!"... To this I've seen the reflection of what Halima will do...#SmilesPlangnan Wasat wrote:"Love is only evident in sacrifice..." Wonderful words.Pokyes Yakwal wrote:"simply save the next generation... even if it means perishing in the process." ...Very thoughtful I'll say.Hannah Poloma wrote:"...Halima what I meant was simply to help others if theyneed your help and if you are in a position to help withoutputting yourself in danger. Herbert I'll help others ifI can but if I can't... I will help myself 1st."Philis Barje wrote:"In a struggle to save lives, most people lost it. But putting others first may earn you a Life. Just like Jack gave up the board for Rose in Titanic..."My friend Plangnan wrote a direct comment to me: "If I love you, then I should do that bro!" When I asked him if he can give up a life Jacket for me.I love all the comments that came in when I posted this and I'm proud to say that my friends are the best!I think disasters are more likely to bring out the best or the worst in people. It's in times like this, that one will know ιƒ He's loved by His partner, parent or even children. If a dad claims to love his children and wife, this is the right time to prove it. If the condition is where the wife is stronger than the husband, may be due to health condition or something, then it's a time for the wife to show how much she cares... Or even the children too.To me the Use of the word "survival of the fittest" in times of emergency like the one described in this story is rather unfortunate. I feel that the weak-that is, sick in this context should be put side by side women and children before any other group is considered. Well as I said, it's a true test of how selfish we can all be and how much we can sacrifice for others. In this, No matter what... Able bodied Men should not struggle life jackets with little children and women. They should give them all the chance to live. They should show some love. The funny thing is that, most of them lived to see those who dragged life Jackets with them... Any ways, I'm just wondering, where's is our love for one another... To round up this piece, I'll write this as my friend Plangnan puts it... "Love is evident in sacrifice"Make some sacrifices in your relationship with people and for sure, you'll "make the world go round" perfectly.
