Get Inspired: Walking with God has to do with you Loving God... It implies standing with and for God, it means running side way with HIM. When the people asked Jesus which is the greatest of all commandments, He said to them; "Love the Lord your God." Now what does it mean to Love the lord? Simply put, loving the Lord is keeping His commandments. The "walking with God" metaphor is seen in 2John 4, and the importance of love in 1Corinthians 13, Which shows love as the greatest of all commandments. So what kind of love is this, as we have seen our society characterised with so many kinds of love. I think that this love which is the greatest as expressed by Jesus is in this context, referred to as the "Agape love." It's a higher kind of love, it's an "expressed love" rather than a "spoken love." It's love beyond just emotions, as it's doing good and loving the "un-lovable" Who are these "un-lovable" today? ... Our enemies, the people who take us for granted, people who have cheated us, people who wouldn't mind we're dead, people who smile when we cry, and so on. Well, We've been chosen and called God's sons and daughters... to walk with Him. And since walking with Him is the central cause of Him dying in our place, then the question to dwell on answering day after day is; How then should we walk with God? The answer to this question is of course; is to Love God. Now in order to make headway, How then should we love God? See, knowing that you can't give God your money, you can't give Him a kiss or feel the warmth of His arms and so on, As the society looks at love today as an emotional expression of feelings in sometimes, romantic ways. Therefore, How then can we love God? We can love God by loving our neighbours; Loving those who are in the world! We can demonstrate this further by looking for opportunities to love even the non believers than staying away from them. This struck me today in church as the preacher (Prof Mc Cain) said this: ...I know the world is terrible now and that we no longer can trust anyone, we now create barriers even of trade with the world. Today, we have christian schools, christian hospitals, christian radio stations, Christian markets, Christian bookshops and so many other that "sets us apart". Some if not most of these were created to separate us christians from anything worldly. However, it's worth noting here that Jesus came for the world! No wonder when He dined with the tax collector, the people saw that as a taboo and that's what is in practice today. We now don't mix with anything and anyone worldly cos in our belief, it will corrupt us. Forgetting that we're called to be the salt and light of the world. You know, you can't be a seasoning part of a meal when you're not part of that meal or light up a city when you don't dwell therein. Instead of looking for opportunities to reach out,we build walls. Walls like... I won't buy from them, I won't eat their food, I won't go to the same school with them and so on. But I think We don't have to separate from them in that manner cos it's only by coming close to them that we can tell them about our God. Sometimes, we don't need to speak about our God, they'll naturally see our God in our attitude. Since the greatest of all commandments is to love God, we're then called to love God and the most important way to love God is by loving even the un-lovable... Those who hate us for their own reason... Those we passionately love but they choose to pay us back with hate. Those who are after our lives, Those who will smile when we cry. Take note that in loving, we don't have to consider what the other person has done to us! That's not easy but it remains the truth. In our world today, there are a lot of people out there that are in need of love... People who need medical care, people who need food, people who need shelter, people who need to learn how to read and write, people who are lonely and they just need companionship... May be you just drive pass someone who needed a lift, will you just let them walk in the cold or the hot sun? The fact remains, you and I have something to offer... People out there are looking for you and I to show them that love, than speak more to them about it. Just so you know, when you do them good, that makes them know that you're a christian and that alone will be your opportunity to tell them about your God. When it's all said, I'm not an advocate of the form liberalisation that the world is trying to put into our churches today; where in mixing with the world, the moral background and fabrics of the church are gradually lost. However, I feel the world needs to be shaped by us. These days, I think Love is either lost of locked up in a dark cell, little wonder hate thrives more than we can all imagine. We can, as christians change the world by looking for the opportunity to do good to all. I hope someone will look at us all someday and see the true definition and essence of God's love. I was blessed today in church and I thought to share these words with you. Thanks for taking time out to read this.
